When I’m rich, this is what I’ll splurge on…

by debt kid on February 14, 2008

If I ever get out the mess that I’m in I know exactly what I will splurge on.

Newspapers.

Yep, I love real, crisp, newspapers.

I’m a huge news junkie, and while reading online content is great…there is just something about having that physical paper in your hand. Plus, it’s great for starting fire’s as well.

I already know which 10 newspapers I want…

my dream list:

  1. Wall Street Journal
  2. Washington Post
  3. New York Times
  4. Seattle Times
  5. Seattle PI
  6. USA Today (for the pictures)
  7. The Oregonian (go blazers!)
  8. Investors Business Daily
  9. Guardian (UK)
  10. Financial Times(UK)

I don’t know how much that would cost each month, but I would be in heaven!

Now that I read everything online I must admit I miss reading proper newspapers every now and again. For a treat some Sundays I buy a Times and sit with coffee reading it most of a morning:)

I didn’t see The Onion in your list? Most of what they report seems more real than the others, even though the entire paper is fake. You can read it online though but it’s neat to have it in hand from time to time.

the nytimes is a rag as is usatoday; the usatoday today, for example, claimed that the current situation in iraq made the republicans heros; of course, the usatoday didn’t even bother to worry about the huge pile of injuried soldiers in the US and the the even bigger pile of dead civilians in iraq, etc…

personally, if I were you, I’d simply get some good books.

Thanks smitty, glad someone agrees with me. Sorry I didn’t elaborate earlier.

it’s moronic to compare nyt to usatoday.

If you have a business you probably get solicitations for WSJ at deep discounts. I used to get it for something like $20 a year. WSJ and Forbes magazine both sent/sent things in the mail for the President/Executive ( me) to subscribe at very low rates.

I’m a fan of your top three. I grew up in the DC area and we got the Washington Post every day. I also lived in NY for a few years and got the NYT’s. The WSJ is always interesting.

I prefer my news online now but I enjoy reading the newspaper in the morning over a bowl of cereal.
