The cops just showed up at my office

by debt kid on July 8, 2007

Oh my gosh. I thought I was done for…

It’s about 11pm now and two cops just showed up at my office. I saw the cop cars outside as I was going in my office building about 5 minutes ago. I even walked around with my briefcase for awhile, waiting to see if they would go away. Two laps later…still there.

I decided it would be more suspicious if I just kept walking around late at night, so I decided to go in the front door to my building, rather than the back alley way that I usually go in (that’s where the two cop cars were!).

So I go into my office, open all the doors, and figure I will just play the “up late working on a sunday night crazy young entrepreneur route”.

And it worked. Whew. The cops just left after chatting with me for a few (very stressful) minutes.
Apparently someone left the back alley door ajar, and an alarm was tripped, and that’s why the two cops were there!

I just chatted with them for a bit, one even stepped into my office and took a look around. Good thing it looks like an office and not my living space! (thank god I got rid of so much crap and can hide everything I own into the small closet behind my desk).

Whew. My heart is still racing. I told them I would be here a few more hours (true) and that I would keep my eyes and ears open for anything suspicious.

I thought I was done for sure and that some old lady had noticed me coming into the building late and night and the cops setup a sting operation on me!

OK, I’m going to get some work done now that I am wide awake!

Gotta love the Seattle PD.

the “hardworking, well-dressed” bit works well with cops. so stay well-dressed.

yeah, I doubt the cops care if you have a cot in one of the storage closets… Especially if you are the boss paying the lease.

A sting operation? Ha! Stop being so paranoid. Even if you were technically breaking the terms of your lease by sleeping in your office, the cops would have no involvement. It would be a civil matter between you and your landlord, and you would get notice from the landlord well before any sort of authorities got involved.

OK, so maybe I was a bit paranoid. But when two cops show up at your very empty office building where you are living late at night, you’d be freaked out too!

I think your site is very inspiring and I wish you nothing but the best of luck. Do you have any comments/thoughts on the iamfacingforeclosure Casey Serin guy? His life appears to be headed even further downhill. I personally believe that unlike you he hasn’t learned anything from his mistakes and continues his selfish and self-destructive ways. You on the other hand I predict will be a success before you know it. Keep up the good work.

@ Gbarney04
I ditto your comments…
I think he’ll pull through because he has an actually business, selling and actual product that people are willing to give him money for… not mogical exposure beans or advertisements on a single site with dwindling traffic. I choose words wisely becasue as far as I can tell debtkids business is selling advertising packages.. :-)

Aw, you chose such a good name for yourself. The ‘kid’ part just shows up sometimes and you’re always learning, and you were all scared! Still, you handled it ok…

The huge debt is a big mistake. A huuge mistake. But it is not what defines you. You’re not ‘debtkid’, you’re whatever your name actually is. And, heh, suppose you could fulfil a woman’s fantasies about sleeping on a desk? Perhaps not in the way she imagined…
