The 7 Stocks Kevin Rose Dugg In 2007
I’m a big fan of the news site digg. Between working on my business and writing financial articles, I waste way too much time on the new media news site that is digg.
What Stocks Does Kevin Rose Own?
I got to thinking….I wonder what Stocks Kevin Rose (digg’s founder) owns? I know he invests. But what is he likely to invest in?
Analyzing Rose’s Submissions and Business Deals
Looking at what Kevin Submits to digg, who sponsors digg and his podcast diggnation, we can get a little insight into what stocks Rose might have in his stock portfolio.
Here’s what I came up with and the reasoning behind each pick:
The 7 Stocks Mr. Rose Might Own
1. Netflix - NFLX

Netflix is a current sponsor the the diggnation podcast hosted by Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht. Movies stories are always popular on digg, so I wouldn’t be suprised if Kevin is not only a Netfix stockholder, but a subsciber as well. Forget netflix though, use a blockbuster promo code to get a free month with blockbuter.com’s total access service.
2. Fox News Corp - NWS
Suprised? Doesn’t Digg hate Fox News? Well, maybe it does, but one of diggnation’s sponsors is the FX Show “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Goes who owns FX? Yep, god old Murdoch and crew at Fox News Corp.
3. University of Phoenix (Apollo Group) - APOL
University of Phoenix’s ads are all over Digg…
4. Microsoft - MSFT
There is a lot of evidence Kevin is likely a Mr. Softie shareholder. Point 1: Microsoft signed a deal with digg to sell and serve their ads. Point 2: Kevin submitted one of my favorite videos ever: Josh Brown of the Seattle seahawks taking down Devin Hester (aka You-Can’t-Catch-Me-Sucker). Who owns the Seahawks? Oh yeah, Paul Allen. So MSFT Makes the list.
5. Ask.com (Interactive Corp) - IACI
Ask.com is another diggnation sponsor. Hmm, it’s too bad ask.com sucks.
6. Amazon.com - AMZN
One of Kevin’s least popular submissions ever was promoting a Amazon product. Me thinks he might have been trying to prop up a little AMZN…only 118 diggs? Ouch.
7. Apple - AAPL
OK, so I couldn’t find any direct evidence as to why Kevin might have AAPL (save this)….but when an i-ANYTHING does well on digg, you gotta think he might try to bank on that. Gotta hedge your Microsoft bets…
How Did Kevin’s Portfolio Perform in 2007? (through Dec. 28th)
- NFLX up 1.2%
- NWS down 4.31%
- APOL up 73.05%
- MSFT up 20.96%
- IACI down 28.12%
- AMZN up 144.05%
- AAPL up 138.46%

Hmmm very interesting, I’m going to track these in my globefund.ca virtual portfolio and see how they do THIS year. I’m guessing this same batch of stocks won’t do as well, but it should be interesting to see!
