What is a good credit score to apply for a credit card?

While every creditor is different, a score above 720 will nearly always get you approved for instant decision credit cards or loans.

The next cutoff for many creditors is a 640 score.

A score below 640 does not mean you cannot get approved for a credit card though. There are many secured and even non-secured cards that you can still get approved for.

The last thing you want to do is go about applying for credit without knowing where you stand. By getting your score first (before you apply) you can narrow down which cards are available at your credit score.

You’ll want to get your scores from MyFico. Then you’ll know where you stand to start applying for cards.
