How important is vacation and rest?

by debt kid on April 24, 2009

Well, I’m going to find out this weekend.

For the first time in almost 3 years, and for the first time since I started writing here, I’m taking a vacation.

To say I’m looking forward to it would be the understatement of the year.

Sure, I’ve gone places for the holidays to see family, and I’ve gone to a few conferences for work and Lending Club stuff, but actually going somewhere for fun for a few days? Nope. Nada. No way.

I think I used to feel guilty about taking time off. Well, I know I did. And I’m still not sure how I feel about it, but I’m completely burned out. My work isn’t going poorly, but I’ve definitely hit a plateau, and it’s gotten pretty stagnant.

I’m not bringing my computer. Not even going to bring my cell phone. I’m going with my lady friend so should something come up, we’ll have a phone.

It’s only a two day, one night vacation, but I think it’s going to be fantastic. I’d love to be able to take a week off at some point this summer, but I don’t know what I would do, where I would go (cheaply) and if it would work with me and the lady.

Anyway…..whew. I’m excited.

Yes please go on vacation! Get recharged, refreshed, rekindle, relax….it will make a world of a difference. I got hammered for taking a vacation couple weeks ago but that was because I was new on my debt journey. You have worked very hard for three years and I am extremely happy for you.

@ Will – Thanks. Yeah, if I had tried to go on a vacation when I first started here I would have gotten ripped to shreds as well. And rightfully so. The great thing about most of my readers here is that will criticize me when I usually deserve it. I’ve been working super hard for the past year and deserve a little break! But, that’s something you gotta earn…

It is important to take time to enjoy your life. You only live once and you never know what tomorrow will bring. All work and no play…ugh! Knowing I have a vacation coming up keeps me motivated, nose to the grindstone and saving lots of money! It is better for me to always have one scheduled. :)

Even though I haven’t taken a vacation in 20 years, I have to nod vigorously and say to you “Go for it!” If I can just video myself doing that, then I can play it back once in a while; and who knows… it just might work. Look, a piggie! And it’s… it’s flying!!

Speaking as someone whose been deeper in than you, absolutely do it. Even a small break helps you get recharged, brings new ideas to the table, provides a new level of focus that you need in order to keep moving forward.

Have a good time.

Ok so how was it? Where’d you go? What’d you do? Are you recharged? Inquiring minds want to ….. live vicariously through you! : )
