As a general rule, it is best to consider bankruptcy as the least desirable option available to you when your finances have gotten out of control....

Susan the exact thing happened to me, never ever would I have dreamed he would of financially ruined us when he had to have possession of our home due to the shop being there. He did not make the payments for 11 ms purposely , you see that is my punishment. I was a stay at home mom and our bkpr so there was no way I could make the payment. I bought the ranch with "my inheritance" but of course it was held jointly. I gave a attorney all my money in 2006 - yes 3 yrs this lasted. She did nothing for me. I have no more bruises inside or out, however people say I need to let go of the anger,,,,lol that will take years. All I can say is in his quest to ruin me; he has also ruined his own credit, no home etc. I dont no why there isn't a legal consequence for things like this. Good luck to you; I finally got a good full time job soI am looking forward and not back

I glad there is a place like this to find out what really happens to people after bankruptsy. I am considering it. I have no choice. Some have posted you should pay your bills. What if you are like me and to get away from my ex husband it cost me everything and more. Getting away from him cost me my home which was forclosed, my car-repossed, my business I helped create gone, my savings, Sep & Roth gone. I owed an impossible amount to even try to pay without the income that I had had.
Was it worth it for me and my kids? Yes. So every situation is different. Ours was extreme circumstances. So don't judge someone until you know all the facts. Walk in their shoes.

John's comment may have been blunt, but we all know that there are people who do file for bankruptcy -- even chapter 7 -- simply because they live way beyond their means. I personally know someone like that who just filed for chapter 7. My heart goes out to people who are in trouble due to circumstances beyond their control, and I'm glad that bankruptcy exists as an option to help them. But let's all admit that some people are not honest when they claim that circumstances are beyond their control. These are the people who ran up debts on unnecessary things, and their selfishness and unwillingness to pay up results in higher prices for everyone. You can't blame John for being irritated with them.
