Don’t Talk On The Phone And…

by debt kid on August 20, 2008

use an ATM.

I think I’m a good listener. In fact, it’s one of the traits I pride myself on.

So, when I was one the phone with my friend earlier this week, she had my whole attention.

But, I thought I’d try to multi-task (bad idea) and walk to my bank and deposit a few business checks I had received.

Bad idea.

Absentmindedly I definitely deposited about $5,000 in BUSINESS checks into my personal Bank of America checking account.

Whoops.

The good news is that I have enough cushion right now that the money being tied up for a few days isn’t a big deal. Still annoying though.

So my lesson: don’t talk and atm at the same time.

Oh snap. I think one of the challenged of our MTV/ADD generation will be learning how to focus our attention on the task at hand: multitasking is great, but some things (like, say, your money) require a little bit more focus than most of the stuff we’re used to doing.

Glad it turned out okay!

Hopefully this bank won’t come and “sweep” your account of the funds like WF did a few months ago.

How is the BK filing going? What is your status?

@ Patrick – Ha! No. That probably would remedied the situation, huh? You know in Seattle now you can get a ticket for not using a hands free device when in the car.

@ BTG – It did turn out ok. I actually got the checks back in the mail today and went again to the ATM (this time solely focused on depositing).

@ Smart Girl – Yeah, I don’t think another bank can “sweep” another banks account to collect. I’m 99.9% sure on that. The IRS though, and other gov agencies totally can. Still no final word from the IRS. I need to call them, they are taking forever to approve my payment plan. It’s getting ridiculous now.
